The Friends of Oakley will host the first of three “Wrap it up” events this week in an effort to wrap Christmas presents that were donated or purchased this year for their annual Christmas Basket Distribution on December 14 which reaches 300 local families. The distribution provides them with a Christmas meal and toys for children.
The event will take place today, Wednesday and Thursday from 3:30 to 6:30 pm at the Almond Grove Cafeteria at 5000 Amaryllis St. in Oakley.
For high school students, the effort counts towards your volunteer efforts.

Donate Food and Toys
It seems that nearly every family has its own unique Christmas observances. Many people are especially proud of Christmas traditions brought to the United States from their countries of origin. The wonderful diversity of foods, music and songs, prayers and stories all make Christmas the holiday of holidays in the United States.
The family Christmas dinner, when the house is full of grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles, who may only see each once a year, is one of the most cherished events of the holiday season. Whether the meal is traditional, with a feast of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and an assortment of baked goods, or is of an ethnic nature makes no difference. The mere fact that you are “home” for the holidays and surrounded by a loving family and friends is the key to holiday bliss.
The continuing bad economy has taken its toll on many of us. For many families the Christmas season has become an event to dread instead one to anticipate. To alleviate these thoughts of despair and help those less fortunate than us the Friends of Oakley – A Community Foundation will be collecting toys and non-perishable food items to prepare Christmas dinner baskets.
