At 1:02 am Sunday, East Contra Costa Fire Protection District was dispatched out to Deer Valley and Briones Valley Road in Brentwood, CA for a vegetation fire.

When Battalion 5 arrived on scene the fire was estimated at 2-acres and with CALFIRE resources on another fire, requested mutual aid from Contra Costa County Fire. The fire was fully contained at 2:10 a.m. Calfire and ECCFPD remained on scene for 5 hours to ensure containment to work on the hot spots near the center of the fire.

In total, the fire was 36-acres.

The fire is under investigation by both the ECCFPD and CalFire’s Fire Investigators.

  1. There seem to be arsonists out there setting these fires! The fires simply do not start by themselves! With stretches of barren land in that area, the authorities must devise some way to monitor any activities taking place there not only after midnight but in the daytime as well. This is getting to be ridiculous!
