Fire Crews Save Antioch Homes and Water Treatment Plant in Late Night Blaze

by ECT

At 10:55 pm, Contra Costa Fire Protection District responded to a vegetation fire that turned into a two-alarm response and threatened surrounding structures by the Water Treatment Plant behind Park Middle School. At this time, it appears the blaze burnt nearly 4-acres.

Fire crews did an amazing job protecting structures as the fire threatened the water treatment plant, business offices and dozens of homes—in fact, crews were minutes away from evacuations, but that did not occur which is a tribute to their efforts last night

Homes that were threatened were off Terranova Dr. just off Lone Tree Way. Firefighters and neighbors went around knocking on doors to ensure residents were alert and taking safety precautions. Crews went through backyards on a couple homes to prevent the fire from reaching the structures while some neighbors took hoses to neighbors fences.  Homes on Elizabeth Lane were also nearly evacuated as the fire reached a transformer but it did not blow –a nearby apartment complex was also alerted, but no evacuation occurred.

Crews were on scene for 3 hours and 23 minutes and required the Antioch Police Department to shut down Lone Tree Way at Putnam to Clearbrook Rd. Crews quickly arrived on scene and requested help from East Contra Costa Fire Protection District along with additional resources from ConFire.

I am still in the process of gathering specific details, but here are photographs from last nights incident:

Why is there no other media coverage about this fire? This shows amazing work by the firefighters to protect all those homes and a major facility in Antioch. Great job to all.

I love this site. I would never have known about why all that smoke was around my house if it wasn’t for East County Today. I checked on facebook and there was the update with photos. These are amazing photographs and great job to the firemen who protected Antioch last night. You people are amazing.

Great job to all! I guess $75 is a cheap price to pay considering what could have happened.

[…] This fire had the potential to be a catastrophe as it threatened power lines, towers, Park Middle School, the Antioch Water Treatment Plant and dozens of homes in a blaze that began at 10:55 pm.  Firefighters from both CONFIRE and ECCFPD limited this to a vegetation fire. Had firefighters not done a good job in containment, this would have jumped into our top 3 fires of 2013. Photos […]
