Fairfield: Woman Arrested in Death of Infant

by ECT

On December 17, 2015, an 18 month old baby boy was transported to David Grant Medical Center at Travis Air Force Base with difficulty breathing from a residence in the 100 block of Michigan Street on base. The baby’s condition was life threatening and he had to be placed on a ventilator.

The baby did not have any external signs of trauma. On December 18, 2015, the baby was transferred to the U.C. Davis Medical Center in Sacramento where he died.

Detectives from the Fairfield Police Department Major Crimes Unit working closely with investigators from the Air Force Office of Special Investigations immediately began an investigation into this death. During the course of the investigation, detectives determined the baby had been in the care of a regular babysitter often used by the family. Following extensive interviews and autopsy results, the case was determined to be a homicide due to a severe internal brain injury the baby sustained.

On December 22, 2015, at 6:00 PM, the babysitter, Gina Nicole Bailey, 24 years, of Travis Air Force Base, was arrested for Assault on a Baby causing Death. The investigation revealed the baby had been shaken violently and dropped on the floor by Bailey. Bailey was booked into the Solano County Jail. Her bail is set at $750,000.

Bailey is a civilian resident on base. The Fairfield Police Department shares concurrent jurisdiction on base with Air Force law enforcement personnel.

This investigation is still active and no further details will be released at this time.
