East Contra Costa Fire Battles Vegetation Fire in Discovery Bay

by ECT

At 6:06 pm Wednesday, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District was dispatched to a report of a vegetation fire off Yellowstone Circle in the Town of Discovery Bay.

It was reported that 3-5 males were in a truck in a field who started the fire and fled the scene. Engine 52 reported smoke showing from the Brentwood Station as they were the only ECCFPD unit available to respond along with CALFIRE 1666.

Engine 53 was in the City of Antioch assisting Contra Costa County Fire on a homeless encampment fire while Engine 59 was on another call also in Antioch.

Upon arrival, Battalion 5 reported the fire was approximently 3-acres with potential to grow to 20-acres. By 6:30 pm, the fire was at 5 acres and no structures threatened, but it quickly jumped a road.

By 6:42 pm, the fire was estimated at 15-acres and still growing due to wind and ultimately jumped a canal by 6:55 pm in which 4-additional units were requested.  The strike team was comprised of units from Contra Costa County Fire (Central County unit), Moraga-Orinda fire, Crockett, and San Ramon.

With the fire under control, BC5 opted to continue only the Central County unit.

As of 7:36 pm, crews are still on scene with active fire.
