East Bay Regional Park District Announces New Police Captain

by ECT

The East Bay Regional Park District (EBRPD) promoted a veteran leader in Bay Area law enforcement to serve as a captain in its Police Department.

Captain Lance Brede, 42, of Castro Valley, was promoted on March 9, 2017. He will oversee patrol operations throughout all 65 Regional Parks, the investigations unit and the volunteer safety patrol. He also serves as the liaison with the Park District’s unit managers. In addition, he will be the District’s liaison with the East Bay Municipal Utility District and the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission.

Captain Brede started his career with the District in December 1993 as a public safety student aide.  He was hired as a police officer in March of 1998 and has worked his way up through the ranks since that time.  Captain Brede has worked a variety of assignments including as a field training officer, police detective, helicopter flight officer, professional standards supervisor, SWAT team leader and commander, and most recently as patrol watch commander.

Captain Brede guided the department through two successful Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) accreditation assessments.  Captain Brede holds a bachelor’s degree from Columbia Southern University and a certificate of achievement from the University of Virginia. He is a graduate of both the California POST Supervisor Leadership Institute and the prestigious FBI National Academy class 256 in Quantico, Virginia. Captain Brede is the recipient of both the EBRPD Police Department’s distinguished service medal and the department’s medal of valor.

“General Manager Robert Doyle and I are pleased to welcome Captain Brede into the Park District’s senior management team,” said Police Chief Tim Anderson. “Captain Brede’s twenty-plus years of persistent and dependable leadership within the police community, coupled with his broad tactical and managerial experience make him an excellent choice to command the patrol and investigative services of our police department.”
