A driver is in critical condition after a head-on vehicle crash on Vasco Road near Marsh Creek Road in unincorporated Brentwood.
The head-on crash occurred at approximately 2:34 pm Tuesday which prompted one person to be airlifted to a local hospital in critical condition and another person transported by ground AMR unit with moderate injuries.
CHP officer Donnie Thomas stated that a utility truck was traveling southbound on Vasco Road when a maroon Sudan was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed and per witnesses was passing vehicles.
“The sedan was passing vehicles and crossed the double yellow line before crashing head-on causing minor injuries to the driver of the utility pickup and major injuries to the driver of the maroon sedan,” said Thomas.
The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, AMR, CHP, and a medical helicopter all responded to the incident.

They need to just buy a cement barrier all the way up and down Vasco n all of HWY 4
Play stupid games and this is what happens!!
This really ticks me off! I have zero sympathy for this guy. My sympathies go to the guy who was just doing his job when a cretin decided to do something stupid. It’s one thing to just be stupid, but hurting innocents in the process is criminal
As cars get faster I notice a lot of people passing at crazy speeds which is a lot of fun until you meet a utility truck head on – Game over!
Never enough law enforcement on Vasco. I constantly get tailgated even when going over the speed limit. You can’t pass on Vasco people.
I see this on a daily .. people passing daily.. we should be adding a new cross on the side. I hope they add bright lights.. people don’t learn
Unfortunately it’s rarely the person playing the stupid games that gets injured or dies. This wasn’t the case here, amazing anyone survived. People need to slow the hell down . Half the time they pass you at 100mph and you meet up with them again 1 or 2 stoplights down the road.
People just need to stop driving like idiots…everyday you see cars speeding like crazy trying to kill themselves. Show offs
I don’t drive Vasco’s everyday but when I do, I average 8 mph over the speed limit. I am constantly tailgated and passed at very high speeds. People are just wanting to get somewhere fast. Watch as you travel either way on Vasco, you will see parts of vehicles on sides of the road from so many accidents, not to mention the crosses placed where someone was killed in a wreck. People, stop being so impatient, get to work or home to your family safely.
Another big accident this morning on Vasco (10/27/2022), did not stick around to see it, took Byron Highway / Mt house instead to 580.
The driver and cause of the accident was my uncle, he’s 18 and is definitely paying his dues. He’s just a kid. Please don’t too big of an asshole
