Contra Costa District Attorney

On April 3rd, 2014 the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office charged Matthew Switzer with two counts of First Degree Burglary, one count of Second Degree Burglary, one count of Fraudulently Obtaining Prescription Drugs, and one count of Elder Abuse.

At the time of the charged offenses, Switzer was employed as a Concord Police Officer.

The charges followed an extensive investigation by the District Attorney’s Office which was initiated at the request of Concord Police Chief Guy Swanger. Chief Swanger requested that the District Attorney’s Office investigate the crimes due to the unique nature of the offenses, and to avoid any appearance of bias. Switzer is charged with using his status as a police officer to enter the apartments of several senior citizens to steal prescription drugs. The crimes occurred in a senior housing complex located in downtown Concord

Mr. Switzer surrendered on the charges, and was taken into custody at the Martinez Detention Facility. He is scheduled to be arraigned on the afternoon of April 4, 2014.  Bail is currently set at $240,000.
