Discovery Bay: Firefighters Respond to CVS After Man Lights Multiple Items on Fire

At 4:49 pm Tuesday, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District responded to CVS in the Town of Discovery Bay after a man reportedly was lighting items inside the store on fire.

Engine 59 arrived on scene to find smoke inside the building with several employees still inside. Crews quickly located a display rack that had been lit on fire and extinguished by store patrons. A secondary search was conducted for additional fires.

According to the ECCFPD District, a small flag display and a bag of charcoal briquettes were damaged.

The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office responded and quickly took a 35-year-old man into custody for arson at around 5:03pm. No details of the subject were released.

The District said no one was injured in the arson and the incident is under investigation by the Contra Costa County Arson Investigations Unit.
