DAR Awards $1,000 Grant to the John Marsh Historic Trust

by ECT

Washington, D.C. – The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) announced today that the organization will be donating $1,000 to the John Marsh Historic Trust (JMHT) for educational and interpretive panels.

Funding for this project was made possible through the sponsorship of Mt. Diablo Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, located in Danville, CA.

The grant will allow the JMHT to fund new materials, including enlarged maps, photos, graphics and other visual elements for educational presentations about Native American, Hispanic and American pioneer history. The material will be on display at the annual Heritage Day celebration October 17, 2015 at the John Marsh House and Marsh Creek State Park in Brentwood, CA. All are welcome to attend this free event.

“We are thrilled to accept this grant from the Mt. Diablo Chapter of the DAR,” said Alexandra Ghiozzi, chair of the board. “The materials we create with this generous grant will help increase knowledge of an important and much overlooked time in California history.”

The DAR grants program was started in 2010. Funding is awarded to support projects in local communities, which promote the organization’s mission areas of historic preservation, education and patriotism.

The DAR receives hundreds of grant applications each year, making competition high for the funding through the non-profit organization. Interested groups must be sponsored by a local DAR chapter, submit a copy of their public charity 501(c)(3) IRS documentation, and include a narrative describing the need and urgency of the project as well as planned activities and benefits to the community which will result from the grant.

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1890 to promote patriotism, preserve American history, and support better education for our nation’s children. Its members are descended from patriots who won American independence during the Revolutionary War. With 178,000 members in approximately 3,000 chapters worldwide, DAR is one of the world’s largest and most active service organizations. History shows, no one cares about the John Marsh house or the Byron hot springs. Old timers need to let them die a natural death or better yet the historical society needs to be renamed “The Hysterical Society”.
