Antioch, CA — Colby Copeland of Roseville scored the victory in the 30 lap Winged 360 Sprint Car Main Event Saturday night at Antioch Speedway. The lone appearance for the division at the track this year was billed as the Sprint Car Showcase, and the track hopes to attract a big series race next season.
Elverta’s Justin Henry jumped into the early lead ahead of Copeland and Kaleb Montgomery of Templeton. The first of three red flags happened for a rollover in Turn 2 by Wayne Katen of San Jose. The race also had a flip by Kameron Souja of San Ramon in Turn 4 on Lap 15. Henry was leading Copeland at that point with Santa Rosa’s Colby Johnson up to third. The leaders caught traffic by Lap 19, and Henry suffered a mishap in Turn 4 on Lap 21 as he flipped and lost a wheel. Fortunately, he was uninjured. Copeland inherited the lead over Colby Johnson and Montgomery. Johnson tried to challenge Copeland, but Copeland prevailed for the $2,500 victory. Montgomery ended up third ahead of Brad Bumgarner of Chico and Travis Labat of Livermore.
Brandon Shaw of Escalon won The Nighthawk 30 for the Dwarf Car class. Nighthawk Defense Group sponsored the entire purse, and the NorCal Dwarf Car competitor Shaw pocketed $1,000 for the win.
David Michael Rosa of Antioch sprinted into the lead at the start ahead of Shaw and David Rosa. Shaw tried a low pass in Turn 1 on Lap 3, only to watch Rosa go by on the inside in Turn 2. However, David Rosa spun on the back stretch and collected Zack Albers of Santa Rosa for a yellow flag moments later. David Michael Rosa continued to lead Shaw and Roberto Monroy of Antioch on the restart. Rosa and Shaw pulled away from the pack when David Rosa hit the frontstretch wall for a Lap 13 yellow flag. Again, David Michael Rosa charged ahead of Shaw and Monroy on the restart. Rosa and Shaw again had their lead battle about a straightaway ahead of Monroy and David Rosa. Contact in Turn 2 between Shaw and David Michael Rosa saw Shaw take the lead on Lap 26. Shaw sped home to the victory ahead of David Michael Rosa, Monroy, David Rosa and Justin Bingman of Castroville.
After a week off, the final race of the season takes place on November 26th. In action will be the IMCA Modifieds, Sport Modifieds and Stock Cars along with the Pacific Coast General Engineering Hobby Stocks.
