City of Pittsburg Announce Closures and Event Cancellations in Response to Coronavirus

On Friday, the City of Pittsburg announced its response and precautionary actions to the coronavirus (COVID-19). The actions are based on recommendations by the Contra Costa Health Services.

The City of Pittsburg has CLOSED the following facilities to the general public:

  • California Theatre -351 Railroad Avenue
  • Pittsburg Senior Center – 300 Presidio Lane
  • Small World Park – 2551 Harbor Street
  • Buchanan Pool – 4150 Harbor Street
  • Railroad Book Depot – 650 Railroad Avenue
  • Pittsburg Old Town Art Centre – 485 Railroad Avenue
  • All outdoor athletic fields and courts
    • City Park, Davi fields, Highlands Ranch, Central Park, Mariner Park, Hillview Soccer Field, Marina Vista Soccer Field, bocce courts at Buchanan Park and John Buckley Square, and John Henry Johnson.

Indoor programs and events with 50 or more attendees have been postponed or canceled, including classes, events, and activities at the Pittsburg Library.

The annual Easter Egg Hunt and Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast is also postponed until further notice.

The Pittsburg City Council meeting on March 16, 2020 is a necessary business meeting, therefore it has not been cancelled.

The City will limit the number of public in attendance to 40 people in the Council Chambers while overflow seating will be available in other areas of City Hall. The City is asking members of the public to follow the California Department of Health’s guidance when deciding whether to attend this meeting: Guidance on Mass Gatherings. City Council meetings can be viewed via live stream or broadcast live on CCTV, Channel 24.

We are taking precautions to reduce exposure at all of our facilities, including:

  • Providing additional sanitation services throughout all of our facilities
  • Educating staff and patrons about ways to reduce exposure
  • Encouraging staff and patrons to stay home if you are not feeling well

Pittsburg city staff will be communicating as quickly as possible with impacted program participants and renters regarding options for rescheduling or refunds, beginning with the most immediately impacted events. We appreciate our participant’s patience as we work through this process.

The city said it will continue to monitor Contra Costa Health Services recommendations in order to make decisions about programs after March 31, 2020.
