CHP Provides Updates on Two Fatal Crashes on Highway 4

On Monday, the California Highway Patrol, Contra Costa Division, provided updates to two fatal vehicle crashes that occurred over the weekend in East Contra Costa County along Highway 4.

The first crash occurred Saturday in Pittsburg while the second crash occurred Sunday near the city of Oakley.

Here is the details:

Solo motorcycle fatality collision on SR-4 near Pittsburg

Saturday May 7th at about 9:50pm, Contra Costa CHP was advised of a solo motorcycle collision on eastbound SR-4, west of Railroad Avenue. The motorcycle (a Yamaha R-6) was traveling eastbound at an undetermined speed and the rider overturned the motorcycle. During the crash sequence, the rider was ejected from the motorcycle.

The rider was pronounced deceased on scene. It has not yet been determined if alcohol or drug influence was a factor in this crash. This collision is still under investigation, if anyone witnessed it or the events leading up to it, please contact Contra Costa CHP in Martinez, (925) 646-4980

FATALITY CRASH on SR-4 near Oakley

Last night (5/8/22) at approximately 11:50pm, CHP Contra Costa responded to a solo vehicle collision on SR-4 eastbound near SR-160. Upon CHP & emergency personnel arrival, a blue Chrysler PT Cruiser had crashed off the roadway and rolled over. The driver (42 year old female) sustained major life threatening injuries, the right front passenger (21 year old male) sustained major injuries and was later pronounced deceased at the hospital, two rear seat passengers (juveniles) sustained major injuries and a third rear seat passenger (19 year old male) sustained minor injuries.

Our preliminary investigation indicates the Chrysler was traveling eastbound on SR-4, at a speed yet to be determined, when the driver allowed the vehicle to veer to the right completely off the roadway. The driver was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence but ultimately released to the hospital to be treated for her injuries sustained in the collision. This collision is still under investigation.
