At approximately 5:50 am Thursday, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District responded to a report of a vehicle crash with an occupant trapped near Balfour Road and Highway 4. The CHP listed the crash near Marsh Creek Road.
The fire district reported a two vehicle crash with a driver sustaining fatal injuries.
By 6:12 am, a SIGALERT was issued after the roadway was blocked. CHP later confirmed on its CAD this was a fatal crash.
CHP UPDATE
Two vehicle fatal collision on SR-4 near Brentwood.
This morning (4/7/22) at around 5:54am, Contra Costa CHP was advised of a two vehicle collision on SR-4, east of Balfour Road. A silver Toyota Corolla, with one occupant, was traveling eastbound and an International truck, with one occupant, was traveling westbound.
It appears the driver of the Toyota crossed into the westbound lane and collided head on with the International. The driver of the Toyota suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene and the driver of the International was not injured. This collision is still under investigation.
