Byron, CA – Contra Costa County Public Works will begin construction of the Byron Highway at Byer Road Safety Improvements Project on Monday, June 20, 2022, through Friday, October 7, 2022, barring unforeseen circumstances.
Work will occur Monday through Friday, between 7:00 am and 3:30 pm, weather permitting. Work will take place along Byron Highway between the intersection with Hoffman Lane and 550 feet south of the intersection with Byer Road. Restrictions will be in place to minimize impacts to traffic during school drop-off and pick-up times. Drivers should expect delays.
Work includes construction of a two-way-left turn lane along Excelsior Middle School frontage and a left turn pocket at the intersection of Byron Highway with Byer Road. Additional improvements include pavement striping, installing drainage facilities, applying a slurry seal, creating a concrete median, an asphalt walkway and relocating existing rapid flashing beacon systems, as well as installation of speed feedback signs.
Federal Highway Safety Improvement Program Funds, Area of Benefit Funds and Traffic Mitigation Funds provide funding for this project. More information for this project can be found at http://www.cccounty.us/pwdmap.
