BUSD: Jeff Weiss Named New Director of Special Education

by ECT

The Brentwood Union School District has announced that Jeff Weiss as our new Director of Special Education.  Jeff was formally approved by the Board during the June 10th meeting.

Jeff Weiss began his teaching career as a Special Education teacher working with Severely Emotionally Disturbed students in Los Angeles and San Leandro in non public school settings.

In 2005, he moved to Washington State where he was a teacher in the Everett Public Schools for eight years. During this time he earned his administrative credential and also earned National Board Certification in Special Education.

Most recently, Jeff has returned to California and has served as a Coordinator and Director of Special Education at St HOPE Public Schools in Sacramento.   During the first round interview, Jeff maintained a repeated theme around collaboration.   The panel liked Jeff’s organized thinking and the confidence and positive energy projected.  One of his references described him as a ‘natural leader’ who is a systems thinker, but also one who gets people to work together effectively.

Jeff and his family currently live in Elk Grove.  He has already been in Brentwood for a couple of days on his own time.  He will officially start on July 8th.  Once he comes on board, you can expect a variety of opportunities to meet Jeff and begin orienting him to our district, programs, and all the wonderful people who guide and support our students.
