Brentwood Union School District Says Mask at Schools to be Optional Beginning March 14

by ECT

Following the guidance today by Governor Gavin Newsom and the California Department of Health of the mask mandate for schools lifting on March 11, the Brentwood Union School District announced masking will no longer be required in Brenwood School. Instead, masking will be optional.

“I think we are all excited to get closer to a school that is more normal,” said Dana Eaton, Superintendent, Brentwood Union School District. “I want to thank the community and staff for all their work together over the past two years during this difficult time. We are looking forward to focusing more on cirriculumn and instruction for our students.”

Here is his letter to the District:

Dear Brentwood Union School District Community,

I am writing to give you an update on recent developments involving COVID-19 and guidance for schools. There was a major change announced today regarding mask mandates.

The Governor announced that starting Monday, March 14th, masks will no longer be required in public schools. In his statement, Governor Newsom shared, “After March 11, in schools and child care facilities, masks will not be required but will be strongly recommended.”

The Contra Costa County Health Department and the Brentwood Union School District Board of Education have both stated previously that they will not be imposing stricter mandates and will be following the guidance of the California Department of Public Health. Assuming no changes to guidance, masks will be optional for all students and staff beginning Monday, March 14th.

The District will continue to support students and staff and will have masks available for those that wish to wear them due to their own safety concerns.

We are still waiting to hear about guidance regarding testing, quarantines, volunteers and other Covid related measures. As soon as we hear updates about those items, we will share them as well.

Thank you for taking the time to read these updates and we will be sending more information out as it becomes available to us.

Sincerely,
Dana Eaton, Ed.D
Superintendent, Brentwood Union School District
