Brentwood: Two Patients Airlifted After Byron Highway Crash

Byron Highway Accident May 10

At roughly 10:06 am Sunday, emergency crews responded to a head on traffic collision with two patients on Byron Highway just North of Orwood Road. The incident shut down Byron Highway for over an hour  in both directions.

According to radio traffic, East Contra Costa Fire Protection District Engine 59 (Discovery Bay) arrived on scene to find two patients with “moderate” to “major” injuries. A second engine was requested and Engine 94 (Knightsen) along with Battalion Chief 5.

CHP and Contra Costa County Sheriff was also called for traffic control as crews worked. AMR was called but were cancelled in favor of the helicopter—at one point, a second helicopter was requested for transport but CALStar was able to transport both patients in once trip to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek.

Is this photo from this traffic collision? I ask because it says AMR was cancelled but I see two buses on scene and a medic at the driver door of the passenger vehicle.

Yes this is there were two buses on scene we pulled up on it after they had closed the road
