by ECT

At 11:44 pm Friday, East Contra Costa Firefighters were dispatched to a report of an overturned vehicle crash with two patients trapped on Brentwood Blvd. near Pine Street in the City of Brentwood.

Upon arrival, Brentwood Police stated both patients were conscious, however, needed to be extricated from the vehicle. A second AMR unit was requested.

Firefighters arrived on scene and quickly freed both patients by 12:01 am who were then transported to local hospitals as a precaution. One male patient was in his 50’s and a second patient in his 30’s.

By 12:20, the scene was turned over to Brentwood Police who were investigating the crash.

Why are these people called “patients?” They become patients AFTER they are officially admitted in a hospital. They may become POTENTIAL patients. Otherwise, they are just drivers and passengers.

Damn, I thought all those times I arrived on scene in a fire engine at the scene of a vehicle accident and there were injured “patients” that I had it all right.
FYI, the moment anyone is being cared for by an EMT/Paramedic they are considered a patient.
I don’t know what else to call someone that you’re administering IV drugs to, intubating, delivering shocks to, doing chest compressions, etc.

Hope the paint will buff out. Mar 24, 2019 - 3:54 pm

How fast was this vehicle going on a “downtown” street? Maybe a text caused this? Slow down and put that phone where the sun don’t shine!!
