Brentwood Shop With a Cop a Success

by ECT

The Brentwood Police Department held their annual Shop With a Cop Event which was a success thanks to the donations of the community and local businesses.

On Saturday, the event began at the Brentwood Cafe where breakfast was served to participants and officers. They then headed to Target for the shopping portion of the event. This included about a dozen police cars with lights and sirens for the kids while they traveled to Target.

Our donors for this event are:

  • Target
  • Rodda Electric
  • Brentwood Cafe
  • Delta Advocacy Foundation
  • Several BPD officers
  • Several school employees
  • The police department also received several donations from the community.

Brentwood-Shop-with-Cop-2015-2Brentwood Police Officer Michael Rucker, who organized the event thanked the community for their support.

“The community stepped up in a huge way and this was the biggest shop with a cop to date,” said Rucker.

On December 4, the Police Department announced they lost their major sponsor of the event. Rather than cancel it after the youths had already been selected, the police department sought community support to continue.

The community and local businesses raised more than $3,000 within a week to allow the event to occur.

The youths who were selected after they have had circumstances beyond their control impact their lives this past year.

It’s nice to read the community raised the necessary funds for the event to continue.

I don’t think it matters where they shopped. I think what matters is a young child is going to have a great Christmas.

Community policing at its finest. Thank you to all the donors who helped support the Brentwood Police and their goal to help children.
