Brentwood School District Works to Conserve Water, Creates Hotline for Water Issues

DISTRICT HOTLINE CREATED FOR WATER ISSUES

The Brentwood Union School District is committed to being community leaders in the important effort to conserve water in Brentwood. We have a responsibility to Brentwood as both members of the community and educational agents to ensure we set a positive example for the conservation of resources.

Our schools get water in multiple ways including wells, reclaimed water and city water. Regardless of the water source, we are working to conserve.

We have been working together with the city during the last several months to create a conservation plan. It is critical that we save water and keep our grass fields safe and useable for the thousands of students as well as local teams and organizations that use them on a daily basis. It is also critical that we keep our fields alive as each field would potentially cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to replace.

We take great pride in our facilities and want the community to know that they will not look as good as they typically do. We are walking each and every school site on a regular basis to look for leaks, broken sprinkler heads and areas of over-watering. Where possible, we are changing sprinkler irrigation to drip irrigation systems. We are working with the city to bring more reclaimed water to our schools that are not yet on that system.

We are committed to being proactive about water conservation, but encourage the community to contact us with any concerns. We literally have thousands of sprinkler heads and drip irrigation location that have the potential to break and malfunction. While our staff is being vigilant, we will greatly benefit from additional eyes in the community. We have sent up a hotline to report any water concerns at 925-513-6321. We truly appreciate the community letting us know of any problem areas.

All talk. I just drove by Bristow Middle, and the lands are being watered at 3 in the afternoon on a hot sunny day! Way to follow your own water saving guidelines!
