Brentwood Police Taser Armed Suspect After Stealing California State Flag

by ECT

On April 22, 2015 at approximately 9:36 am, a Brentwood Police Department Community Services Officer patrolling the downtown neighborhood was hailed by a citizen who had witnessed a subject use a knife to cut and remove a California State Flag from in front of the Brentwood Press building in the 200 block of Oak Street.

The adult male suspect was seen walking away from the area with a knife in his hand, yelling unintelligibly and appearing to be talking to himself.

The Community Services Officer followed the suspect and alerted nearby Police Officers, who arrived on-scene within minutes and subsequently made contact with the suspect in the 300 block of Walnut Boulevard.

Upon contact, the suspect was given several verbal commands to stop and drop the knife. After failing to comply with the officers’ commands, the 47 year old male suspect from Farmersville, CA. was subdued with the use of a Taser and taken into custody without further incident. There were no injuries sustained during the course of the incident.

The suspect was subsequently transported to County Hospital for a mental health evaluation, and the case will be submitted to the District Attorney’s Office for review on the charges of theft and obstructing an officer/resisting arrest. The Flag was recovered and is in the custody of the Brentwood Police Department.
