The Brentwood Police Officers Association spread joy this week to youths in East Contra Costa County as they held two huge holiday charitable events to that provided toys to children this Christmas.
On December 6, Brentwood Police Officers a police softball event was organized which they participated in. The tournament consisted of 12-softball teams of public safety workers. As an entry fee, each team member had to bring a toy to donate. In addition to the toys being donated by participants, they set up a donation bin inside the police lobby—combined over 150 toys were collected for Child Family Service (CFS, formerly known as Child Protective Services).
Officer Mitch Brouillette dropped off the toys to CFS on Tuesday
This past weekend, The Brentwood Police Officers Association held their annual Shop With A Cop event for underprivileged kids throughout the local school district. Once the children are selected, they are partnered with an officer who takes them shopping for the day.
How it works is children are provided with a shopping list to fill out where they pick items for themselves, siblings, and parents. The child gets to pick up a necessity item and a “fun” item. From what we are told, many items children picked included winter jackets, socks and shoes—depending on money available, the child also gets a toy.
On the day of the event, a Brentwood Police Officer will show up at the child’s house and pick them up and take them to the Brentwood Café where owner Paul Boulos donates breakfast to the officers are children—he has been doing this since 2008. The breakfast includes a Santa Clause.
After breakfast, the officers and children caravan in police vehicles and drive to Wal-Mart in Antioch. This includes lights and sirens for the children. Once the shopping is complete the officers drive the children home.
