Brentwood Police Say 4 Dogs Die, 15 Rescued in Fire at Derty Dog K9 Retreat

Just before 10:00 pm Thursday, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District responded to a report of a structure fire in the 6300 block of Brentwood Blvd near Sims Road in the City of Brentwood.

While responding, multiple calls reported a fire and when Brentwood Police arrived on scene they stated a single-wide trailer was on fire at a K9 training location where an air conditioning unit caught fire.

Engine 53 arrived on scene and had the fire knocked down within 15-minutes. They were also informed that 10-15 dogs could be inside. Upon further investigation, several dogs passed away in the fire.

Release from Brentwood Police

On May 19, 2022 at 2158 hours, officers were dispatched to the area of Brentwood Blvd. at Sims Rd. to assist East Contra Costa Fire personnel with a structure fire in the area. Upon initial investigation, it appears that an air-conditioning unit on one of the buildings at Derty Dog K9 Retreat caught fire.

The fire then spread to the building catching it on fire as well. It was determined that four dogs died as a result of the fire. 15 additional dogs at the kennel were accounted for and appear to be in good condition.

The fire was extinguished quickly so no surrounding buildings were ever in danger.
