Brentwood Police Say 18-Year-Old Shot and Killed Turlock Man on Sycamore Avenue

On Tuesday, the Brentwood Police Department identified 18-year-old Brentwood resident Israel Resendiz as the suspect who shot and killed a 43-year-old Turlock man Sunday.

The incident occurred  At 4:20 pm Sunday, the Brentwood Police Department responded to a report of a shooting that occurred on Sycamore Avenue in the Brentwood Parks Apartment Complex in the City of Brentwood.

Police did not provide a motive or share if the suspect and victim knew each other or if there was any relationship between the two.

Update 3: DA Files Charges

The Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office filed a criminal complaint against Suspect – Israel Resendiz, charging him with murder and a gun enhancement. Israel Resendiz remains in-custody with bail set in the amount of $2,000,000.

DEATH INVESTIGATION UPDATE

Homicide that occurred in the 160 block of Sycamore Avenue in Brentwood on Sunday, January 9, 2022 at approximately 4:23 p.m. The victim’s name is being withheld pending next of kin notification.

The suspect was identified as Israel Resendiz, 18 year-old Brentwood resident.

Following the preliminary investigation, Israel Resendiz was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility for murder. The motive for the killing remains under investigation.

Update 1 per Brentwood PD (7:07 pm)

Brentwood, CA – on January 9, 2022 at around 4:23 pm, Brentwood officers responded to an apartment complex in the 1600 block of Sycamore Ave. to investigate a report of shorts fired.

When officers arrived on scene, they located a 43-year-old male from Turlock found outside suffering from a gunshot wound. Preliminary information revealed the male was shot during a family disturbance and later pronounced deceased at the scene.

The suspect responsible for the shooting was determined to be a family member and was detained on-scene without incident. The firearm used during the shooting as been recovered and the motive has yet to be determined.

This was an isolated incident and there is no threat to public safety.
