BRENTWOOD, CA – On July 22, 2015, Brentwood Police Officers investigated the home invasion and violent assault of John Russo (54 years of age) and Ann Russo (54 years of age) in their home on Dill Court.
Mr. and Mrs. Russo were sleeping inside the house when three unidentified suspects entered their home and assaulted them. The residence did not appear to be ransacked and it was not confirmed whether or not any property had been taken. The suspects left the residence and fled on foot in an unknown direction of travel.
Both victims were transported to John Muir Medical Center where Ann was treated and released. John remains at the hospital in serious condition.
Preliminary information suggested the victims were targeted by the suspects and this was not a random act of violence.
Brentwood Detectives conducted an extensive amount of follow up investigation and positively identified the suspects who entered the home as:
- Usiel Alejandro Beltran (20 years of age – Pittsburg)
- Moises Sumale (19 years of age – Pittsburg)
- A seventeen year old female from Pittsburg
It was determined that property had in fact been taken from the residence during the commission of the crime, some of which has been recovered.
Follow up investigation revealed a 16 year old male from Pittsburg and a seventeen year old female from Brentwood conspired with the above three suspects to commit these crimes against Mr. and Mrs. Russo.
All five suspects have been arrested and remain in custody on charges of: Conspiracy (182 PC), home invasion/robbery (211/212.5 PC), residential burglary (459/460 PC), attempted murder (664/187 PC) and assault with a deadly weapon (245 PC).
Bail has been set at $2.18 million dollars each and arraignment is scheduled for October 1 in the Contra Costa County Superior Court. All juvenile suspects will be tried as adults in Superior Court.

Pittsburg trash should stay in Pittsburg.
The bigger problem is that had the Oakland/Richmond trash stayed in Oakland/Richmond and not bused over here, there never would have been any trash to come to Brentwood!
These juvenile criminals are going to find out what it is like to be held responsible as adults. Don’t do the crime if you cant do the time…and they are going to do time.

It appears the conspiracy started with a Brentwood person. Be careful generalizing. Who is worse? A Hitman or the person who hires them?

Oakland/Richmond trash? Pssssssh. Like there’s no crime commited by teens who were born and raised in this area. Lord no! It couldn’t be our innocent, beloved children! It must be all the Hispanic and black riff raff from other predominantly ethnic cities like Oakland and Richmond! Lol…

John and Ann are members of my extended FAMILY! It had nothing to do with race at all. Without giving too much info, it was all because a teenage girl was caught by her boyfriend “cheating” and decided to MAKE UP a STORY that she had been “attacked”. Parents are failing to teach their kids right from wrong,and how to behave in a socially acceptable way. Race or income have NOTHING to do with being a MORAL person!

I can’t say too much,yet, but a teenager screwed up,tried to cover it up, then claimed SHE was victimized! Even though she knew what the others were planning and let it happen! It matters not why or where someone comes from when trouble is caused. What I can’t understand is why most of us just sit back, do nothing but criticize. ACT! Start saying what you know to curb this scourge our society has come to accept. Start standing up for justice or move. Get involved.
