The Brentwood Police Department responded to a robbery attempt last night at the Arbor Ridge Apartments in Brentwood just off Lone Tree Way shortly after 9:00 pm.

According to police, the incident involved minors who came up with an “elaborate” plan to steal a cell phone.  One of the suspects would knock on the door and act as if two others were chasing him and pretend he needed help.

The person at the door allowed the minor in the home and used the phone. While on the phone, the door would open with the three other suspects entering the home and knocked the victim to the ground while stealing the cell phone.

Brentwood Police responded quick enough to catch the youths still on the complex. Upon being apprehended, the minors admitted to stealing the cell phone.

The police department stated the minors ranged in ages 15-to-17 with one being from Brentwood and the other three being from Bay Point.  The minors were ultimately released to their parents.  No weapons were involved in this case while police were on scene for just over an hour.

The case has now been passed along to the Contra Costa County Juvenile Prosecution Division. It’s unknown at this time whether or not they will pursue charges for this incident.

Nice work Brentwood PD!!!

Absolutely they should be charged. They should be stopped before they commit a more serious crime even if this is a first offense. Thank you BPD for your quick response.

Yes they should pursue charges! These kids need to be taught a lesson by showing them you can’t get away with this behavior. Not the first time, or second… or eighth! Let’s not allow them to think that if they’re caught and are young enough they won’t be prosecuted! Serious disregard for others deserves serious consequences.

Thank you BPD. Folks this group wasn’t from Antioch!

Of course they should be prosecuted. This probably isn’t the first time they have tried to do something, maybe first time caught.

To prosecute would show disrespect and possibly damage their self esteem! Steve- Antioch

Absolutely they should be prosecuted. They should not have been turned over to the parents, but sent to juvenile hall.

What they did was Pre-meditated! They concocted a plan to beat someone up in their own home and rob them of their property. That is called a Home Invasion! Look at what happened in NJ recently. We need to send a message that this violence will NOT be tolerated. A trip to jail might have been just the ticket to teach these kids a powerful lesson. This is not ‘child’s play’. Smh.

They should all be charged with Home Invasion as well.

Um it sounds like a home invasion robbery to me. It was violent the person was knocked down. If charges aren’t pursued I’d be pissed! Not a good job Brentwood PD and the parties involved if they let them slide.

That’s okay Steve, I know sarcasm when I hear it. Prosecute to fullest extent of the law. Four strong arms to one victim. A short stay in jail is only going to educate them. If they decide to do it again, they will have a better plan, like no witnesses.
