Brentwood POA: Do Not Be Nice To Beggars

by ECT

Brentwood POA

The Brentwood Police Officers Association put out the following information today about folks begging for money in Brentwood stating that if you continue to give money, they will continue to come to the city.

PLEASE DON’T ENCOURAGE CRIMINALS TO COME TO BRENTWOOD

We recently responded to a call concerning a man begging for money outside the Bank of America on Lone Tree Way. When officers located the man, he openly admitted to begging for money.

He also stated he prefers to come to Brentwood because our residents “are nicer and give him more money”.

The man was in possession of about $60, which he said he earned in a few hours. Officers also determined the man was a convicted felon (burglary), an admitted drug addict, and admitted alcoholic. If our residents continue to give money to beggars, then criminals like this will continue to find it lucrative to come to Brentwood and set up shop. They are not going to stop committing crimes while they are in Brentwood.

Some forms of begging are protected by the First Amendment. Unless a city enacts specific ordinances stating otherwise, it is generally legal for a person to sit with a sign asking for money. It is ILLEGAL to actually approach people and ask for money, or to block someone’s path and ask for money. If you see this happening in Brentwood, please call and report it to our non-emergency line at (925) 778-2441.

Please help keep Brentwood safe and give to charities instead of beggars. If you are someone that is inclined to give to beggars, please read this excellent article on the topic: http://blog.practicalethics.ox.ac.uk/2012/09/dont-give-money-to-beggars/

Awesome article. Brentwood police are awesome at what they do. I’m glad they can be straight up about advice on dealing with ghetto filth.

In Antioch it is far too late. If you DO NOT give them money you considered a racist. In Antioch, it is the culture to treat ghetto filth as if they are ROYALTY.

I wonder why Antioch has so much crime. Hmm….

Way to go Brenwtood. I’m glad BPD can provide straight-up and honest advice on the ghetto filth. Too bad I can’t say the same for Antioch.

In Antioch, if you do not give the beggars money, you are considered racist!
In Antioch, the culture expects you to treat the beggars like ROYALTY.
In Antioch, the beggars are protected by the people who run the city.
In Antioch, the beggars have more rights than the common hard working, tax paying citizen.
In Antioch, unfortunately, most people are broke because they gave all their money to beggars.

I think this beggar realized that Antioch is tapped out, so on to greener pastures!

RJB, there you go again. I have lived in Antioch 50 years and never given to a beggar. We do have a huge problem and all of our problems continue to move east to Brentwood. I think the key here is entitlements. How are the beggars protected by the city? NOT. They are protected by some laws as BPD states here.

I never give money to beggars. I do offer food all the time because if they are truly down and out people need food. If you give beggars money they will surely use it for drugs, booze, or cigarettes. So don’t give them money. That’s the last thing they need. They already have a welfare credit cart anyway.

The liberty school district is busing ghetto filth to our local high schools from pittsburg, Richmond and as far away as oakland. Our kids have to put up with these low life’s at school. If your kid goes to liberty high school ask them. Bpd needs to know this also. They have started to commit crimes here to.

Liberty does not bus people in just as Antioch never did. That is a poor excuse for not being aware of your surroundings. The people you are complaining about have been there 20 years but everyone has ignored what has happened. Too little too late. At least the PD is trying..

Don’t take my word, do your own research. It’s true. “At least the pd is trying” spoken like a true liberal where acting like you care and trying are what matters.

Wow, I really pray none of you become homeless and hungry one day, with people like these on this post, you’d starve to death and they’d just walk over your dead body..What a dark and dying world this is, or should I say this community!!! LORD have mercy, for they know not what they do!!

@Lucy

Unless you open your private home and private fridge to the homeless every weekend for free housing and food, please don’t get all high and mighty about people’s God given right to his or her own opinion about the homeless.

Hypocrites are the worst.

Where did Antioch go wrong??????? Sep 23, 2014 - 8:58 pm

Lucy Bryce. You need to open your eyes and look around you. Most of these people were not thrown into the street. These are people who pray on kindness and they give nothing in return. We spend countless taxpayer dollars on caring for these people that are homeless by choice. I have a great idea. Post your address so I can go pick these poor souls up and bring them to your house or neighborhood. We can see how you or your neighbors will deal with it. I do respect your compassion for people but you should respect and understand why people post things about these beggers that are a drain on our society.
