Brentwood: Man Injured After falling Off Roof, Exterior Fire Threatens Home

by ECT

On Thursday, between 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm, East Contra Costa Fire Protection District resources were limited after two major incidents required multiple fire resources.

The District, which only has 3 fire engines covering 250 square miles were all on calls and Contra Costa Fire lent an assist on a residential structure fire in Brentwood.

The first incident occurred at 6:27 pm when a male fell off a second story roof in on Homestead Drive in Brentwood. Engine 93 (Oakley) arrived on scene to find an adult male unresponsive laying on the floor in a garage.

According to the fire district, patient care was delayed because they were dispatched to 2400 Balfour Road. They began to provide patient care as he was suffering from possible head and internal injuries.

Engine 52 (Brentwood) and Battlian Chief 5 also responded as a medical helicopter was requested.

The incident is under investigation with CAL-OSHA.

Exterior Fire Threatens Home

east-contra-costa-fire-brentwoodWith the two closest ECCFPD engines on the medical call on Homestead Drive, a residential structure fire came in on the 2400 block of Tamaplais Ave in Brentwood at 6:51 pm.

Units from Contra Costa Fire Protection District (CONFIRE) and Engine 59 were dispatched.

Engine 88 of Antioch was first on scene stating the fire was out but requested two additional units continue which was Engine 82 (Antioch) and Engine 59 (Discovery Bay). Upon further investigation, Engine 82 who was closer was cancelled and Engine 59 continued—moving up to the District was CALFIRE for coverage.

An exterior fire caught the side of a home and extended into the wall requiring extensive overhaul causing damage to the garage. Crews were on scene for about an hour.

…and the rest of we homeowners aren’t willing to spend a lousy ten and a half bucks a month to ensure we have adequate and more responsive emergency medical and fire protection services in East Contra Costa County? This could have been any of us! Hell…most of us spend that much a week at Starbucks!

Exactly, we’ll said! Having to wait ten minutes for medical help when a loved one isn’t breathing and turning blue is way too long!! Wake up residents of Brentwood, you could be waiting next praying that they get there faster. We need our fire stations re-opened! More houses are being built which means more medical/fire emergencies for our already depleted Fire District. When we get to vote again please say yes to the 10 and some change every month. Delayed response times could mean the diffrrence between life and death!
