by ECT

Just after 9:00 am Monday, East Contra Costa and CALFIRE firefighters responded to a report of a vehicle that had gone off the roadway and down an embankment on Marsh Creek Road near Deer Valley Road.

According to dispatch, the male patient was stuck in the vehicle and could not move due to a rib injury and pain.

Firefighters arrived on scene and located the vehicle where it did go down an embankment and into a tree. Firefighters observed a man and his dog who were inside. They had to extricate the subject from the vehicle which shut the roadway down in both directions.

Once extricated from the vehicle, the patient was taken to Round Valley Regional Park where a medical helicopter transported him to John Muir Trauma Center in Walnut Creek due to chest pain and lower extremity injuries

The California Highway Patrol took control of the patients dog and the incident is still under investigation.
