At 2:34 pm Thursday, East Contra Costa Fire Protection District responded to a report of a hay fire on a tractor trailer on Sellers Avenue near Sunset Road.
Upon arrival, they located 2-tons of hay on fire being towed by a tractor between Sunset and Chestnut in the roadway. The incident caused both CHP and Brentwood Police to shut down the roadway.
Engine 53 and 59 responded to the incident which also required Contra Costa Public Works to respond as the hay was in the roadway as crews worked to put out the fire.
By 3:45 pm, Engine 53 turned over the scene to police and public works.
The road has since reopened.

HAY…there’s a fire
Don’t smoke in your car and ash out the window. Especially if your carrying a full truckload of highly flammable hay.
