Updated: Fatal Accident Shuts Down Highway 4 near Balfour

A fatal accident has closed eastbound Highway 4 near Balfour Road Monday morning. The incident occurred around 4:24 am after a white pickup truck and a semi-truck collided.

The incident left the white pickup truck hanging over a concrete barrier on the overpass. CHP stated the driver of the pickup was pronounced dead at the scene.

CHP issued a SIG Alert at 4:44 am with no estimate of when the road would be reopened. The accident is impacting Vasco Road commuters as the road is closed Balfour and Marsh Creek.

BRENTWOOD, Calif. – Highway 4 Bypass was shut down in both directions, east of Balfour Road today due to a fatal traffic collision that occurred at 4:30 AM. The collision occurred when the 17 year old driver of a Toyota Tacoma allowed his vehicle to drift from the eastbound lane, over the double yellow lines, and into the path of a GMC 6000 utility truck that was traveling in the westbound lane. The driver side of the Toyota collided head on with the left front end of the GMC. The Toyota then careened out of control and overturned until coming to rest atop a concrete barrier along the right side of the Fairview Avenue overpass.

The driver of the Toyota died as a result of his injuries and his 17 year old female passenger was transport to a local hospital with non life threatening injuries. The driver of the GMC was uninjured.

This traffic collision is still under investigation and witnesses of this incident are asked to please call 925.646.4980 to provide us with any additional information they may have. Very sad. Too young to be gone. Looking at the photo, it is a miracle that the girl survived.
