Brentwood: Councilman Stonebarger Says Flyer on Walmart Inaccurate

Brentwood Walmart

In hopes of preventing misinformation from flowing across Brentwood regarding the possibility of Walmart coming to Brentwood, Councilman Erick Stonebarger took to social media Sunday to put folks at ease.

According to his post, he explained the flyer (above) was a scare tactic of removing the CUP (conditional use permit) on Sciortino Ranch so that a WalMart can come in.  He did admit, he would love to see a Costco file for a CUP.

He further explained that the city council received an update and held a discussion a few months ago highlighting that the Ordinance may be reconsidered only if Sciortino Ranch agreed to conditions. If a “big box” did want to come in, they had to agree to certain public safety, urban blight and economic decay conditions—the update was to allow the council to be prepared to mitigate depending on the application type.

According to Stonebarger, Sciortino Ranch was discussed because it’s the only one in a generally residential area. There has been much effort to control big box impacts in non-commercial areas such as the bypass and Lone Tree.

Tuesday morning, Stonebarger said he reached out to the person who created the flyer on Sunday, but there has been no response.

Sprouts told us about a year ago they are coming to Brentwood. Out there near Marsh Creek and the Bypass. They could have changed their minds but it sounded like a done deal to us. You could check with the Walnut Creek store. Their asst. mgr lives in Brentwood. We go there once a month and I sure would like it in Brentwood. Well…Antioch but Brentwod would do.
