Brentwood Chamber Seeks Financial Support For Holiday Parade

Brentwood Holiday Parade

This year will mark the 31st year dancing horses and festive floats fill the streets, ringing in the holiday season at the annual Brentwood Holiday Parade. Although grants have been reduced for this event, Jilda Fairhust, Office Manager and Event Coordinator for the Brentwood Chamber of Commerce, wants residents to know the parade will happen.

“I think we can do it, but we definitely need help,” says Fairhust.

The Chamber is looking for businesses to sponsor the parade as well as for businesses and groups to participate in the event itself. As it stands Monday morning, the Chamber is in need of $5,000–not the $10,000 as rumored on social media. Since last week, the Chamber has had some businesses step up, but are still short of the funds needed for the event.

This is a great opportunity for businesses to showcase what they do as well as well as show their support for their community.  It’s also a fantastic event for high school bands and community organizations to build a float and celebrate the season as well as share what their organization stands for.

“The more entrants we have, the better the parade can be,” says Amy Alvis, Brentwood Chamber of Commerce Board of Director Member. “It can be such a fun event for schools, clubs, and businesses to join in.” Alvis adds that she would love to see more floats. “There have been some really fun ones in the past and everyone loves floats.”

The Parade welcomes all businesses and organizations.

According to Alvis, “We also get a lot of dance and cheer teams, bands, martial arts groups, and horse shows that add to the fun and flavor of the event.” She adds that “the reasonable entrant fee for these groups also helps the expenses to run the event.”

The other way businesses and people can help is through financial sponsorships of any amount.  Volunteers are also welcome to help stage the event and check in groups who will participate in the parade.

This year’s parade is scheduled on December 7th.

I here there are folks over in Oakley that can provide financial aid to the Chamber. If not, Burke can right a hit piece on you for not magically finding the money to put the program on.

ECV’sB Better watch out the spelling police may be after you.

Julio,

If you knew this moron (“ECV’s brother”) then you would know the spelling police are the least of his worries. His enemy is reality. He is a partially functioning r—– who provides little more than entertainment for those of us out in far, far East county. Believe me, his frustration is deeply rooted in the fact that he has already been written off long ago as a kook.

Try as he may, he will never get past that. I am sure you have noticed a pattern.

Apparently some people are not aware of how potentially hurtful the term “retard” is not only to the person at whom the name calling is aimed, but more importantly to those touched personally by loved ones with various forms of learning and mental disabilities, particularly parents of special needs children.

Folks would do well to avoid name calling altogether, but certainly avoid flippant use of these sorts of attacks. It’s not funny, and it’s not clever. It is thoughtless and pathetically boorish which I am sure is not the goal.

Just because one can make these sorts of attacks anonymously doesn’t mean they should.

Thanks for pointing it out… I’ve edited the word.

Sorry Burk but ECV’s brother and EECV have displayed the level of mental retardation that I referenced-I meant no insult to anyone but where it was aimed. Before they get their collective panties in a wad please consider that mental retardation is a clinically accepted term and used in many applications.. http://www.healthline.com/health/mental-retardation The reference was directed solely at them and was not intended to offend anyone else-nor was it intended as name calling. Unfortunately for them, their affliction is difficult to label without coming across as mean spirited or offensive. This is no joke and wasn’t meant to be. “Mental retardation involves both a low IQ and problems adjusting to everyday life.” Simply put, the shoe fits.

Their whining is also symptomatic of another of their many conditions. The words “grow up” often come to mind.

Therefore does dummy, ignorant or mentally challenged work better? Not only are those all acceptable terms, i assure you, they all fit. The truth be told correctly labeling them for who they are wouldn’t be fitting here.

EECV’s “whoa is me” post above is typical of his infantile tactics. (Almost as bad as his juvenille attempts to mimic my screen name). Deal with him long enough and his transparency will quiclkly give him away. He has no credibility and wallows in his own frustrations.

Big bro these outbursts have me concerned for your mental health. Each time you lash out like this your tone becomes more worrisome. Calm down and take a deep breath. It is only Brentwood seeking help on the holiday parade. The holiday parade is for song and cheer. The Chamber puts out a remarkable amount of effort for people like you who need a bit of cheering up. You are hurting cousin EECVs feelings. Try to focus and say something positive. You are important to at least one of us out here including yourself. If it makes you feel better send a check to the Chamber. The holiday parade is one of the city’s best events.

Sad that one would defend the use of the R word by pointing out the only person she was intending to offend was the person at whom the word was directed. As if that intention does anything to ease the pain of everyone else who was offended.

In the off chance that such a person is willing and able to step beyond her current knowledge base, and to further promote a worthy cause, I offer the following:

EECV,

You pretty much got it. Thanks for the added clarification!

Why don’t you guys go to Facebook or something? Your name calling just ruins this nice blog

ECV Sep 17, 2013 - 9:45 am

Julio,

No offense but if you want nice, please go to the Brentwood-Antioch Press or CCTimes newspapers. They specialize on tardy, watered down news and censorshiped opinion.

I have seen you on other “blogs”. You know how it works. If you don’t like it, don’t read it.

Thanks.

I will say something positive. I remember right after we moved back to Brentwood and my daughter was about 4. I told my wife that she and I would go to the holiday parade and we would be back in about an hour. The homecoming parade was always an hour so I figured this one would be about the same. Wrong! We were there for over two hours and loved every minute.
