Brentwood Announces Cancellation of Large Gatherings at Senior Activity Center

by ECT

The City of Brentwood announced as a precautionary measure against the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), it is both cancelling and postponing some of the large gatherings that are scheduled at the Senior Activity Center this month.

A letter went out Friday announcing the move to the Senior Activity Center participants and the city is now working with the Senior Activity Club Board.

The events that have been cancelled include:

  • March 9 &16 – Brentwood Senior Citizens Club Monday Bingo
  • March 13 – St. Patricks Day Special Luncheon
  • March 17 – St. Patricks Day Dinner

The move comes after the recommendations were made from the Contra Costa Health Department for those over 50 and with certain medical conditions to avoid larger events and gatherings.

According to City Manager Tim Ogden, just a few activities were being cancelled at this time and the rest of the senior center will remain open. Staff will continue to follow the County Health recommendations, and Bingo was specifically mentioned, as well as other events involving at risk populations in close quarters.

The Center features a Main Hall/Multi-Purpose Room with a stage, dance floor, kitchen and a large lobby area. It is an ideal space for Weddings, Luncheons, Corporate Functions, Banquets, Trainings, Parties and Special Events. A meeting/activity room is also available to accommodate smaller functions of up to 88 people. The kitchen includes a gas range/oven, and refrigerator, freezer and ice maker. Rooms can be rented separately or together to allow extra flexibility for your event.
