by ECT

At 9:15 pm Saturday, Brentwood police responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Streets of Brentwood in front of the AMC Theater.

According to police, four juveniles were hanging out in front of the movie theater when they approached by two subjects who tried to coerce the juveniles to go behind the theater. When they refused, one of the suspects pulled out what appeared to be a firearm from his waistband. The take was cash and cellphones. The subjects fled away towards a nearby trail.

Police then said the two responsible came into contact with two people on the trail who then told them they had a gun and took their cell phones and cash. They then took off towards Shady Willow Lane.

About 30-minutes later, Brentwood Police were informed of a similar robbery which had occurred at the AMC Theater on Deer Valley Road. The number of suspects in that case was not provided.

Suspects were described as two black males ages 17-20.

  • Suspect 1: 6 ft. about 170 lbs
  • Suspect 2: 5’10” about 160 lbs

Police in Antioch and Brentwood are working together to identify the suspects. No further information was provided as this is an active investigation.

Left Antioch for SoCal three years ago and it was the best decision we ever made. Feel sorry for Brentwood that black thugs from Antioch has infected their city like a invasive disease.

The ‘black thugs’ from Antioch (not originally obviously) who are taking their disease of violence and hopeless degeneracy to the Streets of Brentwood are doing it for one reason. Because they can. In my opinion this problem is not something that has happened in the last 5 years but the last 25. The reason why Antioch has become what is has; and will continue on that trajectory without radical intervention, comes down to two, maybe three factors in my humble opinion:

1. The Section 8 floodgates of the 90s- Back when I attended Deer Valley in the 90s, I made friends with fellow black kids who were coming in from West County to fill the rosters of my new shiny high school on droves. I didn’t understand why these kids would say they take BART to Antioch just to attend some school on the suburbs. As I progressed through high school I began to put two and two together. Those same friends would drive to school in late model imports and the latest Jordan’s but remarked that their rent was only 200$ in an area where Mello Roos was hated but tolerated by its residents who begrudgingly paid the price of admission to live far away from the ‘ghetto’ Pittsburg (who since has reinvented itself and beat Walnut Creek in crime rates in recent years but more on that later).

Who’s to blame for the Section-8 Floodgates? well… most likely people like you. It was all too tempting back then to not get it on having the government give you a guaranteed check while you bought a few more houses in an up economy. After all, the neighborhood is good, a few section 8 tenants won’t hurt if we screen them right? Wrong. Just like any other person who has access to something they never had before it becomes exploited. Eventually more and more people move into that house, bringing with them that one nephew who would be ‘ok if he just got out of that thug lifestyle in Richmond or east/west Oakland and laid low in the suburbs for a while. The playing out of this scenario over and over is why Antioch is in the state it’s in.

Greedy buyers, mainly White, Asian, some Mexican and a few black contributed to the section-8 Floodgates.

2. Lack of community identity leading to a dissociation between Law Enforcement and city politicians- Back to Pittsburg. Recall how ‘black thugs’ were also a very prevalent problem on Pittsburg’s streets? The city has taken what money it’s been able to secure and revamp itself into a place that is more desired to live over Antioch by far. Housing prices reflect that too. Maybe Seeno had something to do with it, maybe he didn’t. The point is that Pittsburg as a city ‘ knows what it is and knows what it’s not’. It’s residents reflect that in their sense of pride and cohesiveness. Still, it’s no Danville, but it doesn’t have to be. Antioch is barely liveable to a normal person at present.

So in retrospect, that rumor that keeps going around about Antioch intentionally allowing itself to morph into an inner city- at least temporarily seem to have some bearing. A local restaurant owner located near Contra Loma Blvd informed me that Antioch Police and city officials are sitting on their hands until this e-Bart thing finally comes into fruition. The goal is to let housing prices drop because of the crime, discouraging greedy buyers and pushing out the easily scared looky-loos and once the new BART extension raises home prices, sell to the techies who hate city dwelling and can now get to work easier.

Sound far-fetched? You be the judge.

Great post Jacq!

Nice piece Jacq. I have noticed Pittsburg coming up and Antioch going down. Soon it will bleed to Brentwood unless the leaders get a brain and not the greed.

Pull a gun on me and watch me not care. I will fight and take a bullet if I must. Most thugs won’t go that far. Robbery is one thing, murder is another.

Jacq’s is the best insight I’ve read about the city of Antioch’s current state; thanks for that input Jacq.
