seriously don’t know why they built the Oakley-Antioch overpass 1st, the Balfour overpass is much more important as it gets more traffic and it merges into one lane with all those over-speeding vehicles

Everybody needs to slow down. These are real cars we’re driving…not bumper cars.

JR May 4, 2016 - 8:57 pm

They need to start widening that part of the road as the 4 starts opening more lanes more traffic starts piling up. Make it three lanes not one. Who was the smart one to make it just one lane?

Bret May 4, 2016 - 10:21 pm

Southbound Highway 4…I thought it went in a west/east direction??? ? Anyway, great bypass, just needs more barriers to split the traffic.

Nanci Johnson Lenoci May 7, 2016 - 1:15 am

The bypass is north/south at that point and for a while.

Camille May 4, 2016 - 10:52 pm

It is only one lane each direction because brentwood is too cheap to pay for it. The antioch oakley overpass was done first because oakley actually forked over the money.

RZ May 5, 2016 - 9:42 am

Gee Camille, if you look up the project it is designed to be built one intersection/overpass at a time. Balfour is next and they are already doing the prep work for that. These collisions are the result of people driving too fast, people driving distracted and people driving stupid, like trying to move up 10 cars in the stack by passing on the right shoulder then cutting in. Happens all the time there.

John Doe May 5, 2016 - 12:49 pm

They should have started the Balfour overpass 1st instead of the seldom use oakley-antioch overpass

smh at stupid people... May 5, 2016 - 5:14 pm

camille… you are an idiot… vapid… vacuous… imbecilic…

sad May 5, 2016 - 4:17 am

People need to slow down, SLOW DOWN so we can all get home. People are so impatient on the road and drive so fast. We all just want to get to where we are going with our lives and vehicles in tact. I would love to see more CHP between Concord and Brentwood.

Brentwood really needs to do their part.
Look at the traffic by Heritage. These dangerous conditions are unacceptable.

Stephen May 5, 2016 - 9:48 am

Brentwood has nothing to do with it. The roadway belongs to Caltrans, not Brentwood. The roadway was constructed with funds collected from Antioch, Oakley, Brentwood and the County. Oakley did not fork over any money. The accident occured on the widened lane separated section not the 2 lane section. Get the facts straight before you post.

Millions of primates worldwide controlling the direction and momentum of 4,000+ pound metal machines is one of the worst things to have happened to this planet.

Not even including the ecological-death induced by decades of oil extraction, atmospheric deterioration, poisoning of waterways, and the incalculable amount of waste produced by unused cars and their parts…the death toll due to car accidents since they were first invented is astounding.

Learn to use your feet again, fellow primates.

Hey all Bay area drivers you need to slow down and not have a me first driving attitide. If you need to be someplace at a given time, allow yourself enough time to get where you need to go. That way everyone gets to where they need to be safely. It hurts to see people hurt because of reckless drivers. Also don’t drink or use drugs and drive.

If you aren’t going 70 mph you have an idiot tailgating you! Not to mention when it turns to one lane @ Sand Creek everyone tries to swing over to the right lane to beat the traffic stopped in the left lane causing a merge cluster. The bypass needs a CHP parked monitoring the traffic. It won’t be a waste of time they will write a bunch of tickets and possibly a life may be saved……

Resident May 5, 2016 - 12:36 pm

….at the time this accident happened traffic is usually at a stop or moving extremely slow, i would bet money on the fact that “someone” was speeding through the merge line to gain that “ALL MIGHTY” 3 car lead.

resident May 5, 2016 - 12:41 pm

kathy is correct- ….traffic is usually stopped or moving extremely slow at the time of this accident, i can guarantee it was caused by someone speeding in the merge lane trying to gain that “ALMIGHTY 3 CAR LEAD”, and now someones dead….

Careless drivers is the problem May 5, 2016 - 4:18 pm

The responsibility is with the driver of every vehicle. Unfortunatly we have those that don’t have a clue how to drive safe. You can blame the roads, they are just pavement!!, it’s the careless people behind the wheel, period!!

I Bet the idiot was on the phone or texting or checking his Facebook page!
