Assemblyman Frazier and AT&T Challenge Liberty High School Students to Join It Can Wait Movement

BRENTWOOD, CA – Assemblymember Jim Frazier (D-Oakley) is partnering with AT&T to bring a virtual-reality simulator to Brentwood’s Liberty High School, giving students a chance to see for themselves the dangers of texting and driving.

Throughout the day on Monday, March 9, Liberty’s driver training classes will meet in the school library, where they will learn about distracted driving from California Highway Patrol and Brentwood Police officers and take turns in the simulator seat. They will also be invited to sign pledges promising to not text and drive.

At lunchtime, the simulator will be made available to all Liberty students.

“I want young people to experience this texting-while-driving simulation so they can take the message back to their friends and loved ones: Resist the urge to text and drive. It’s not worth it,” said Frazier, whose elder daughter was killed in a 2000 traffic accident that severely injured his younger daughter.

Because he knows all too well the anguish of losing a child, Frazier has partnered with AT&T and the It Can Wait movement, which is attempting to make texting and driving as unacceptable as drinking and driving.

Drivers of all ages are encouraged to visit www.ItCanWait.com, where they can pledge to not text and drive, and share their pledge with others via Twitter (#ItCanWait) and Facebook. It also offers a host of educational resources and information on the issue – including a documentary featuring families impacted by texting and driving crashes.
