Antioch: Vehicle Crashes into Parked Car, Takes Out Power Pole

by ECT

At roughly 4:30 pm Sunday, a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed hit a parked car and took out a power pole before coming to a stop and sending the driver to a local hospital.

The driver was traveling at a high speeds in the eastbound direction of W. 5th Street when the male driver struck a parked car on the corner of D St. and caused the crash. No one else was injured. The incident required Antioch Police, two fire engines, and American Medical Response while the incident shut down the intersection at D St. and 5th Street as PG&E worked to repair the pole.

It’s unclear of alcohol or drugs were related to the crash. No further information was provided on scene.

5th Street is a residential area. Amazing how fast someone can go with no respect or care in the world for other peoples safety. I hope when the driver is recovered, charges are pressed and he has to pay for all damage and public service time. Absolutely disgusting to see this at that location.

It’s very disrespectful to show photographs of the driver on the stretcher being taken away. Shame on you ECT. Show some respect for peoples privacy.

If people are going to do dumb things (break the law, for one), then they are taking the chance of being shown in less-than-ideal condition. It’s not as ‘tho he’s a victim—unless of his own stupidity. Was he having a seizure or another medical issue? Or simply driving in a reckless manner?? If it was the latter, then he deserves to have his photo on here.

Mary? It is not disrespectful. His privacy ended when he left home. Thank you for the photo’s Mike.

This is the second horrific accident that has happened on 5th Street in the past year. The previous accident totaled my neighbors car that lives across the street. This accident happened 2 houses down from me, and the explosion that happened was incredible !!! My son was the first to get to the young man who apparently was txt messaging and blew though the stop sign, before totaling both of my neighbors vehicles, as well as his own. The young man originally was unconscious, my son spoke to him until he awoke, and advised him he was just in an accident, and to be still and not to move, as to not cause any injuries to his spinal column. The neighbors, as well as my mom, whom also lives on 5th Street, said he blew by her house at the rate of speed of over 60 miles an hour !! People need to SLOW down, stay off their phones, and have some common courtesy for the rest of the people that reside in this town !!!! Thank God no one was hurt. And Mary, it was VERY disrespectful of that idiot kid to be on his phone and driving through a residential area of speeds over 60 MILES an hour !! Thank you ECT for showing what the reality of the blatant lack of common sense and disrespect that people have for their fellow humans !!!!!! The impact was so tremendous, car parts flew hundreds of feet damaging my car as well as others……
