Antioch: Two Early Morning Fires are Suspected Arson

by ECT

Contra Costa County Fire Protection District investigators are continuing to investigate suspected arson at two separate locations in the City of Antioch early Tuesday morning.

The first fire broke out at 3:25 am in the 1600 block of G Street near W 16th Street when it was reported that a vehicle was set on fire and began extending to the garage and the building.

According to CONFIRE spokesperson Steve Aubert, the fire had spread from a Mercedes to the walkway and threatening multiple units.

“This fire had much potential to impacting the building and residents with injuries. If it wasn’t for Antioch Police going up a walkway on fire and jumping over flames to evacuate everyone from the complex quickly it could have been worse,” said Aubert.

One resident was displaced while they are still investigating smoke damage

A short time later, at 3:44 am, crews were dispatched to W 20th Street at D Street where a suspect attempted to light a vehicle on fire. The fire was limited to the pickup truck in front of a home.

According to Aubert, they have no suspects at this time and both are suspected arson in nature with the same kind of motive in how they started.

“It’s still very early in the investigation to determine motive and leads. We do believe the two fires to be arson. There is no connection to the two occupants, just a connection off geography and timing is how they are related,” said Auburt.
