Wardell May 16, 2016 - 6:13 pm

So they’ll get felonies since they didn’t kill anyone and then be back on parole on our city streets! Thanks city leaders!

Sara May 16, 2016 - 10:09 pm

Figures this shit would start up once they got rid of the guards.

Ahmad May 16, 2016 - 11:34 pm

Antioch is the new Wild West. These crooks are not scared of the APD, they commit shootings and murders in broad day light while our coward Antioch Mayor sits behind closed doors. It is time for that coward of a mayor to step out and address the crime, especially 3 shootings within 24 hours. That mayor is a joke! Luckily all these goons were apprehended, but knowing today’s laws, they’ll be out in no time. Stay safe people.

why does this article not mention the races of the suspects involved?

Kate May 17, 2016 - 1:15 pm

Because race doesn’t matter.

Jasmine May 17, 2016 - 1:56 pm

why do they need to?

Sara May 18, 2016 - 11:07 am

The individuals have been apprehended as far as I know, so therefore race (description of the suspects) is irrelevant. If they were searching for the individuals, it’d be a different story. In that case, yes, we would need a description (race is apart of description). Don’t allow yourself to get caught up in race, being that we’re in the 21st century and it has been basically, completely disproved. Race simply helps describe someone, it doesn’t define them.

Yes, WHY???? I’m sick of the “Media” always being “politically correct”!

Concerned Antioch Resident May 17, 2016 - 6:30 am

VOTERS:

Federal Glover (Past Antioch Mayor) started this snowball of crap. As County Supervisor, it just grew even bigger.

Wade Harper (Current Mayor) turned that snowball of crap into an Avalanche of crap.

To this date neither one have stepped forward to handle these issues that Antioch is undersiege.

Thus, vote NO on all ballots with their name attached to it and for any and all positions they are running for.

This is the starting point to clean-up Antioch!

AGREE 100%

Old Pittsburg/Antioch Hwy Border May 17, 2016 - 7:30 am

Our starting point was back in the 1990’s before approval of mass development without a growth in middle class paying employers. Do a history check of Antioch politics at that time, We are now and forever will be the people dumping place for the County.

Old Pittsburg/Antioch Hwy Border May 17, 2016 - 7:25 am

Clean up Antioch? No, we missed that opportunity when the City Council in the early 1990’s failed to see the consequences of a community that outgrows infrastructure and large employers. We lost many middle class jobs since then and only now is infrastructure nearing the size needed to support the community. Only a miracle can save us. A miracle: The people in Contra Costa County stop their elected officials from releasing inmates that will go to this city, stop allowing government assistance to crime ridden families in this city, and no real estate sales to successful crime families. A miracle indeed.

Wade Harper is slick. His whole campaign to get you idiot gullible voters to promote him to mayor was “Zero tolerance for crime” what great marketing trick.

Where’s the “zero tolerance” now?

Now he wants to be Supervisor with his buddy Glover.

What will you voters do now?

GWG May 17, 2016 - 8:18 am

Answer: the “progressive liberals” will overwhelmingly vote to re-elect Glover and promote Harper to the Board of Supervisors. Voters in east county are idiots

SMH May 17, 2016 - 8:09 am

PITTSBURG City Council voted unanimously Monday night to install “several” surveillance cameras along Highway 4.. Antioch needs to do the same plus more cameras all around the Sycamore L St area;

Julio May 17, 2016 - 9:08 am

Federal Glover was never mayor of Antioch. Bless his heart he was mayor of Pittsburg. Concerned Antioch Resident you need fact checking.

If Harper gets elected to supervisor it will by all those misdirected thinking that is the only way to get him OUT of Antioch. Do not vote for Harper for anything. He is running for mayor again also. Just as his ace in the hole incase he loses the supervisor gig.

Concerned Antioch Resident May 17, 2016 - 7:46 pm

Here is your fact check: Julio increase your fiber intake, and buy bigger panties because you are very disgruntled. Save your best and shut up!!!

Unome May 17, 2016 - 9:24 am

Harper needs to loose both so east county can get some sanity back. No Harper if you want change. The murders need to stop now.

James May 17, 2016 - 10:16 am

These animals involved yesterday need to be shot and killed. They don’t deserve to walk this earth anymore. I’m sure they don’t contribute to society much and they have no regard for human life. Losers and failures of society at it’s finest.

Here’s what I don’t understand, why aren’t you folks filling the council chambers and protesting the failure of this council to do the will of the people? When I lived in Antioch and ran a highly organized community activist group we had both Federal Glover and the council shaking in their collective boots and made them get off their butts and do something about the crime in Antioch. Demand that the council resurrect the quarterly Quality of Life community forums that occurred from 2006 through 2009.

These forums were demanded and established by United Citizens for Better Neighborhoods (UCBN) and they were attended by 200 to 300 residents, the City Council, District Supervisor, County Housing Authority, APD, and representatives of AUSD which gave residents a platform to voice their concerns regarding crime and violence in the city. There were very effective in facilitating change in the community and these regular meetings made elected officials accountable to residents because each entity had to report back at each forum what action the city had taken to improve the cities Quality of Life. Unfortunately, these forums were discontinued when Jim Davis became Mayor of Antioch.

If you want Antioch to improve you need to be willing to get off these message boards, get organized, and make it happen yourselves.

kailani May 17, 2016 - 2:15 pm

Amen Gary Gilbert!! Get out off the couch and get to the meetings. If you don’t do anything, quit complaining. It takes a village, not just a handful of people.

Gary Gilbert May 17, 2016 - 5:49 pm

Our group (UCBN) filled the city council chambers on a regular basis and forced them to address crime in the city; we held crime marches throughout the city; we held community forums in the community room of APD with the Director of Housing Authority to demand that they take action against Section 8 tenants who were terrorizing their neighbors; Chief Hyde, myself, and Hans Ho created and implemented the monthly neighborhood cleanup program that still exists; and UCBN created the APD Appreciation BBQ to honor our police officers and their families for the great job they do for the community. Our first BBQ was held in 2006 and we had over 300 people attend in the park on James Donlan. Because of the success of the first event, in 2007 we moved the BBQ to the water park and we had over 600 people attend.

Why am I telling you all this? Because YOU have the ability to come together and force the city council to do the job you elected them to do. If you want Antioch to become a safe place to live and raise your families then stop whining and complaining on these message boards and do something about it!

Daniel May 17, 2016 - 4:34 pm

What we need is constitutional carry. If all these low lifes knew the citizens *could* be armmed there would be way less of this crap going on. Wake up people the police can’t protect you even if they wanted to! I’m glad no one was hurt during all this. Be safe people.

Knowing the other person has a gun doesn’t appear to stop them, does it?
