Antioch Set to Discuss Applying for Governor Newsom’s Homeless Trailer Program

by ECT

The City of Antioch announced Monday that it will host a Special Meeting of the Antioch City Council on Tuesday to discuss Governor Gavin Newsom’s Homeless Trailer Program

According to the agenda, it is being recommended that the city council authorize the city manager to apply for the Governors Homeless Trailer Program.

The governor has unveiled a program to deploy 100 state owned trailers to qualifying cities and counties throughout the state for the purpose of housing the homeless. Initial discussions with the Governors office have resulted in Antioch being a potential candidate for 3-to-5 trailers that can house up to 10 individuals each.

The agenda also stated the details about utility hook ups and other improvements that will be required to accommodate the trailers are still unknown. The city manager is looking for direction if the City Council is interested in pursuing this opportunity. Applications are due on Wednesday January 29, 2020.

Editors Note:

In his State Budget proposal, Governor Newsom formally announced more than $1 billion in homeless response funding, including $750 million for this new Access to Housing and Services Fund, and a major new investment to reform Medi-Cal so that health providers transform health care to deliver integrated physical and behavioral health.

Last year, the Governor signed 13 bills into law to help confront the homelessness crisis and others to fuel new housing development. In September, the Governor called on the Trump administration to increase federal investments in housing options for people experiencing homelessness and requested 50,000 additional Housing Choice Vouchers (HCVs) and Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) vouchers. In July, Governor Newsom announced regional leaders and statewide experts who will advise his Administration on solutions to address the state’s homelessness epidemic.

I am so disgusted by this. I am disgusted by Mayor Wright. I expect this from Lamar Thorpe an Monica Wilson but not Mayor Wright. Why don’t they have a meeting about what they can do for residents? For local business? 2020 election can’t come soon enough. They all need to go!!!!!

You aren’t even subtle with your racism. It is amazing to see that we haven’t evolved all that much. referencing Wilson and Thorpe on the homeless issue, is pretty blatant. Let’s try making suggestions for solving the problem and leave the bigotry out of it

Leave your damn basement liberal

Can’t say a single word, without some jobless liberal calling you a racist,

Dan was simply pointing out how horrible local politicians are

The fact that you find racism in that shows how pathetic liberals are

Get a job George Matthews leave the basement George Matthews we are all sick and tired of replenishing your debit card each week

Oh Sven, the typical American who thinks the poor person on EBT is the enemy. Socialism is already alive and well in America, and guess who profits the most? The rich with their tax cuts. We bail out banks with corporate socialism more than we bail out the average American. Find out who the real enemy is. It’s not the one stealing your trash, it’s the one stealing your social security.

Not to get personal, but I probably make a lot more money than you. And, if you had reading skills, you could at least get my name right. Got MY job, friend. Perhaps you could get one, too. And hire a tutor

Those who say, “I probably make a lot more money than you do” .. emphatically do not. You have no idea about anyone’s financial status unless you are their business manager. You have no clue whether they live off investments, business profits and you have no clue which companies they invest in …….. or what profession they are in, Georgie! You’re just displaying your ignorance for all to see.

Great. Lets park all five at each of the city council members houses if they want them that bad. As a backup, lets place it on Ron Bernals street.

We have the County Fairgrounds here in Antioch that could be used for housing the unhoused. With the flea market there on weekends there would be opportunities to get food and personal needs items. they could also work doing cleanup around the place.

“Unhoused?” ROFLMAO! Good one! And each trailer will hold 10 people? I can just see the fight starting and our PD having to set up a mobile unit manned by at least 3 cops to take care of these fights. I can also see people refusing to be stuck in RVs and “preferring” to live outdoors and not adhere to any rules, because they will be rules set up for this.

This is not about the 5 trailers its about creating a rv parking lot for many more trailers like oakland. Expect a lot with 30 to 50 trailers with a homeless community. Shame on Antioch City Council. They are embracing this lifestyle versus what is best for residents and business.

There are a couple of excellent locations for a TEMPORARY navigation center in Antioch. Seems to me, if adequate emergency shelter is provided, it wouldn’t be a problem to shoo these folks away from residential and commercial areas. By not providing the shelters the city is handcuffed

Bill Bunting Jan 28, 2020 - 1:46 pm

Would that be like a TEMPORARY tax?

This is great news
Everyone in the state of California can stop working now
The Governor of California, what’s his name, is going to provide everyone housing for free, and take over your mortgage payments, for free

Susan is the only one above with any common sense whatsoever. All you keyboard warriors just want to whine, complain and bitch about everything but don’t want to provide any positive input. This problem is not going to fix itself. Please…do something other than what you are doing.

Kate Feb 1, 2020 - 1:25 am

The problem would have fixed itself years ago if all those who were sent to California from other states, were returned to their home state where they would be taken care of at their state’s expense, not California taxpayers expense.

It is true that other states give their homeless a one way ticket to California. California the liberal state run by crooks. The more broken California shows on the books the more federal money is received and more into the pockets of the politicians that pretend to care.

The church and state come together to house the unhoused? Trailers parked on church property? A win-win-win for all?
