Antioch Public Information Officer to Get Six-Month Contract Extension

by ECT

On Tuesday, the Antioch City Council will vote on a resolution that will increase the contract for Public Information Officer services by $48,000 with Voler Strategic Advisors.  The action will increase the contract by six-months.

If approved, Voler Strategic Advisors will work with the City of Antioch through March 15, 2021 for a total not to exceed $144,000. According to the city, the contract is costing the city $8,000 per month which does not include any media advertising buy or printing.

In June 2019, the city agreed to allocate $100,000 for a public information officer, however, the city opted to bid for these services which Voler Strategic Advisors were the only firm to submit a proposal. In Sept. 2019, the city awarded Voler Strategic Advisors a six-month contract for $48,000 to provide Public Information and communication officer services including account management, community outreach, public relations and crisis management services.

In March 2020, the City extended the term of the agreement through Sept. 15, 2020 and increased the contract to a total of $96,000.

This looks like the city could have a full time person and funds left over if they hired a new employee.

Antioch residents should be asking their mayor and city council to justify this spending. Most cities of Antioch’s size do not contract for a “public information services officer” and do just fine. What the hell do they have a city manager for?
