Antioch: Pregnant Woman Shot in the Back, Fetus Okay

by ECT

Antioch Police say that on March 27 at 9:42 pm, officers responded to the Sycamore Drive coordinator after numerous gunshots were heard in the area.

While officers were attempting to locate the source, 911 calls came into dispatch leading officers to Spanos St where a pregnant female was reported to have been shot in the back and family members were transporting her to a local hospital.

When officers arrived, they were met with approximately 20 family members that where some were extremely hostile toward police. Officers were able to secure the crime scene and located (6) .45 caliber shell casings, fragments and bullet strikes to the iron gate separating the complex from Spanos St.

The hostile crowd grew larger and most was uncooperative with the investigation.

In order to protect the integrity of the crime scene and crowd control, three Brentwood PD officers and three Pittsburg PD officers responded to assist with an outer perimeter to maintain the crime scene and prevent additional family members from entering the complex.

Once the scene was under control, it was determined the family was having an Easter Day get together. Many family members were on the lawn between the units when gunshots were fired at the group from the iron gate separating the building from Spanos St.

The victim was struck in the lower back which was eventually determined by hospital staff to be a minor laceration from a bullet fragment. Her injury was determined to be minor and the fetus was not in danger.

I am shocked and dismayed that this was not brought ot the attention of the citizens in Antioch. With 4+ days of strong arm robbery and this plus who knows what else – yet to be uncovered. UNACCEPTABLE

I agree. A.P.D.tries to hide some of crime that suites them best. Nothing new. Burglaries are down but look at all the strong arm robberies that have incressed. I know they do the best they can. God help us all.

Time for full time police presence on Sycamore. Maybe even a substation for convenience. This area is a war zone. Where is RJBs thoughts on all this?
