The Antioch Police Department confirmed Saturday that as of 4:30 pm they are still looking for a man who went missing Friday in the City of Antioch

Along with the police department, the Contra Costa County Search and Rescue team has been mobilized and has been assisting in the search.

According to police, they are asking the community to be on the lookout for Mr. Ramon Fernandez, an 84-year-old Latino male, 5’4″ tall 158 pounds, with gray hair and brown eyes. He has dementia and has been missing from the 1200-block of ‘A’ Street since 7:30 am.

He was wearing a plaid long-sleeve shirt, blue tee-shirt, and blue jeans (see photo). Mr. Fernandez only speaks Spanish and usually uses a wheelchair, so it’s possible he did not get too far. APD officers are actively searching for him now.

If you have any information on his whereabouts, please call 9-1-1 from within Antioch or (925) 778-2441 if you are outside Antioch.

I don’t think there are any houses or apartment buildings in the 1200 block of A Street. What street does he actually live on? Sunset Drive? Bryan? East Madill? I bet he wheeled-chaired himself into someone’s back yard and those people are out of town for the weekend. Are the searchers using aerial surveillance to look for him?

Who was in charge of monitoring this man’s movements? They would know his habits and, hopefully, are heavily involved in locating him! People with dementia should be carefully monitored and not let out of their dwelling alone.

If he’s not found soon, then things don’t look good with the heat in the daytime and chilly at night. Thirst and hunger will weaken him. It’s been two days now. Hope he’s found soon.

Hope the searchers use drones to help locate this man.

Looks like he’s still missing! Where in the world could he be? Some people with an early onset of dementia can do OK for a while. As the diseases progresses, things can get pretty dicey. Some years ago, I saw a man in a wheelchair riding on the shoulder lane on the freeway. Called 911 immediately and I’m sure other motorists did as well.
