Antioch Police Remind Residents Fireworks Are Illegal, Could Face $1,000 Fine

With the upcoming 4th of July holiday the Antioch Police Department reminds the public that possession, manufacturing, storage, sale, handling, and use of ANY and ALL fireworks are illegal in the City of Antioch (AMC 4-6.03) and within Contra Costa County. Even fireworks designated as “safe and sane” are illegal and possession or use may result in a fine up to $1000.00.

Every year the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District responds to numerous fireworks related fires and injuries. Each and every one of these incidents could have been prevented.

On the 4th of July, 911 centers are overloaded with non-emergency fireworks calls. Please only call 911 during life-threatening emergencies and if you need immediate help from police, fire, or medics. Non-emergency 911 calls may block people with emergencies from reaching 911 and receiving timely help.

Any fireworks related fires or injuries should be reported directly to 911. Other fireworks violations may be reported by calling the Antioch Police
non-emergency number at (925) 778-2441.

Leading up to and through the holiday weekend, the Antioch Police will have extra staff patrolling our neighborhoods looking for fireworks violators. In addition to confiscating illegal fireworks and citing offenders, officers will be delivering a safety message in an effort to keep our community safe.

Please consider the City’s 4th of July Parade, the fireworks show at the fairgrounds, and other planned events on the 4th of July. The Antioch Police wish you a safe and enjoyable 4th of July celebration!

We play a fun 4h of July game every year at the house, figuring out if we’re hearing fireworks or gunshots.

Not to worry, it’s never enforced.

The city barely even enforces traffic, do you really believe they’re going to enforce fireworks??? I’ve been here for 22 years, and have never seen/heard of them enforcing any of it. Fireworks continue to well into wee hours of the morning in Antioch. Pretty sure the responsible parties care less about these empty threats.
