The California Highway Patrol reports that early Wednesday at about 1:02am, they was advised of a solo vehicle crash on Hwy-4 westbound, at the transition ramp to I-80 eastbound.

Upon emergency personnel and CHP arrival, it was determined that a blue 2008 Toyota Scion XB had been driven off the roadway of the transition ramp, crashed and became fully engulfed in flames.

The Fire Department extricated both the driver, a 20-year-old male from the City of Antioch, and his female passenger, an 18-year-old from Hercules, and began life saving efforts on both. Unfortunately, the male driver did not survive and was pronounced deceased on scene by medical personnel. The female passenger suffered major injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Coroners Office will be handling the release of the deceased drivers identity.

It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs were a factor in this collision but it is still under investigation. If anyone witnessed this collision or the events leading up to it, please contact Contra Costa CHP in Martinez, (925) 646-4980.
