Antioch: Firefighters Limit Fire to Garage, Save Classic Camaro

by ECT

At 7:27 pm Sunday, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District crews responded to a reported residential fire on Clearbook Rd. in Antioch that was limited to a garage fire.

The incident required five engines and two battalion chiefs as crews worked to prevent the fire from spreading outside the garage.  Upon arrival, crews reported moderate smoke and fire was out. Crews searched for extensions into the attic and the rest of the home which did not occur.

According to a firefighter on scene, this incident had potential to cause some serious damage had the fire spread to the attic and roof with high winds and surrounding trees. The neighboring home was also an issue should an evacuation have to occur as the residents there have limited mobility.

As fire crews were cutting a hole in the roof, the resident asked that they try not to damage his classic Camaro since the fire was out and fire crews took extra precaution with pieces of the roof falling into the garage.

Antioch PD was on scene for traffic control.

Second Incident Causes Power Outage:

At 9:25 pm, Contra Costa Fire Protection District crews and Antioch PD found themselves back on Clearbrook for an outside fire which caught two large trees on fire with power lines down. The fire was quickly under control but the incident caused a outage. While on scene, the transformer sparked and blew.

Commercial Fire Scare At Twin Creeks Apartments

While on scene of the Clearbrook incident, with crews on other incidents, the engine got called to a commercial fire at the Twin Creek Apartments at roughly 9:45 pm after it was reported an apartment was full of smoke. While the fire was put out prior to crews getting there, they investigated the incident and were on scene for roughly 30-minutes. They then went back to Clearbrook as PG&E worked.

When the weather starts getting bad (wind, rain, fog) the calls for service increase. Can’t tell you the number of times I had to clean 2 or 3 sets of uniforms from one shift. Stay dry & warm guys.
