Antioch: Firefighters Battle House Fire on Viera Ave

by ECT

On June 29 at approximately 11:30 am, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire in the 1600 block of Viera Avenue between Brown and Stewart Lane in the City of Antioch.

While responding, a column of black smoke was showing and was determined to be a working structure fire. At least one occupant was having a panic attack and a second AMR unit was requested to the scene.

Upon arrival, firefighters located an exterior fire that extended to a home with multiple propane tanks on fire. Engine 53 from East Contra Costa Fire also assisted as they were one of the closer units to the scene.

By 11:50, the fire was knocked down and units began overhaul. Antioch Police were on scene to provide traffic control and shut down the roadway.

The incident is currently under investigation by CONFIRE.

Jeeeezus! Look at all the crap these people keep behind their fences and why is it such a surprise that their place catches fire? Propane tanks? That should not be permitted! The city should get DRONES flying over houses to see what there is in the backyards which is flammable and mandate that all crap and weeds be removed! Some of this stuff is behind fences and not visible from the street, but it poses a danger to other structure in a fire.

There are backyards all over this city that look just like this. It takes the city literally years to do anything about it.

The City administrators should indeed get some drones fly over, street-by-street and mandate that all that junk be removed immediately or the city should have it done for them and CHARGE THEM a hefty fee! A few doors away from me, these SLOBS have old, dried out CHRISTMAS TREES from years ago piling up in their back yard. One spark, and it’s all over!

You guys are down with law enforcement infringing on personal property? Get a grip. This area is right around the corner where Jaycee Dugard was found, too. Law enforcement was incompetent then and are now. They’re always going after the little guppies instead of the big fish. That’s why the “justice” system is a joke and people are losing faith in it.

That is now city of Antioch as the county no longer wanted it. Very soon they are supposed to do curbs and gutters in there and sewers also. Don’t count on it looking better because those people liked it rural and will continue to fight all of it.
