2:40 pm Update
According to police, two adult females and two males believed to be juveniles were in a vehicle driving from the City of Pittsburg into Antioch when a firearm was discharged by a juvenile passenger in the back seat which then struck the driver. Upon being struck, they drove to the student lot at Antioch High School where Antioch Police and Contra Costa County Fire responded.

At that point, two juveniles fled the scene. Police quickly were able to locate the two juveniles and recover two firearms. Both juveniles were then taken into custody.

It appears the gunshot wound was non-life threatening and at least one of the females was pregnant.

No other details have been released at this time and this appears to be an accident discharge of a firearm.

3:22 pm UPDATE via Antioch Police (juveniles were actually adults)

On 4/19/2021, at approximately 1:44PM, an Antioch police officer was flagged down by a citizen near the intersection of W. 18thStreet and L Street regarding a shooting that just occurred.

The officer located a female gunshot victim nearby sitting in the driver seat of a vehicle stopped in the south parking lot of Antioch High School (700 W. 18thStreet).

The female gunshot victim initially told the officer that she was robbed and shot by an unknown person. The officer was quickly able to determine that the female was being dishonest and was accidentally shot by an adult male acquaintance. The male acquaintance was a passenger in the vehicle and fled on foot with another male passenger just before the officer was flagged down.

An assisting Antioch police officer located both males at the intersection of L Street and W. 10th Street. One of the males was in possession of a handgun. A second hand gun believed to be the handgun used in the shooting was located by a police service canine near the scene.

The female gunshot victim was transported to a local hospital by paramedics and is in stable condition.

At this time the shooting appears to be an accident. Both males were arrested for illegal possession of firearms. The shooting occurred inside the female victim’s vehicle as it was traveling north on L Street near William Reed Drive. The female victim stopped her vehicle in the Antioch High School parking lot, however the involved subjects do not have any current association to the school.

So if a cop accidentally shoots someone it’s a crime but if it’s juveniles shooting each other, it’s just kids being kids……check.

So/ Where these 2 “juvenile” males adults or not? That has not been made clear. Either way, juveniles should be treated just like adults … the news media should reveal their names, ages and crimes. No more Mr. Nice Guy!
